Are you having an annoying problem when starting an XView application in
XFree86-3.1? Well, you can get around it easily.

[problem]

 * XView applications complain that it doesn't find "translation
whatever" when invoked, taking several extra seconds delay to start.

[measurement]

 * turn "NumLock" off before you start your X server. Do either of these.

 (1) simply hit the key once to turn it off. (yes, it works!)
 (2) disable "NumLock" in your BIOS setup.
 (3) use a utility if you have one i.e. setleds(1) in linux.

Lars Koeller <uphya001@odie.physik2.uni-rostock.de> and A. Rohde
<exp109@modcomp.physik.uni-kiel.de> shared their experience on the net
how to get around it, mentioning the third alternative above.
Consequently, I confirmed that the first technique also worked in
FreeBSD, so the second technique should give substantially the same
outcome.

[people I owe credits]

Hope this helps,
