I recently bought a Toshiba MK438FB drive (approx 830 MB), and
have had numerous problems getting it to run under BSD/386 v1.1.
First, the scsicmd program couldn't figure out the drive geometry, so
I inputted those by hand. While this has worked, I'm getting pretty
poor performance out of the drive... I'm wondering if I misguessed
the rpm info. Write performance seems terrible when writing to the
the last partition that resides on the last cylinders.

    I'm seeing 300 KB/sec write performance, and 600 KB/sec read.
(Based on using iostat and some wallclock timings...)

Is anyone happily using this drive under BSD? If so, what
geometry information did you use? How did you prepare this drive for
use? What kind of performance are you seeing? Any help would be
greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance!
