Whether or not you personally agree with the conventions, you are better off following them than risking the negative peer pressure that will result if you post to a lot of newsgroups. It does not matter what you or I think; what matters is what the majority of the news group readers think. I believe that (for example) most of the readers of comp.arch will not appreciate having this posted to their board. There are other boards for this kind of thing.
