Only, I don't understand why at boot time, after setting parameters for my ethernet card, the system seems to hang for about one minute. This timeout elapsed, I see an error 'bad value' and then all starts well (I mean sendmail, named, pppd etc....). This is what I get on the console: >ed1: flags 8863<etc...etc..> mtu 1500 inet xx.yy.zz.ww netmask XXXXXXX broadcast aa.bb.cc.dd ether nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn >.......timeout for about 1 minute >unix.stylo.italia.com: bad value of course I have a line in sysconfig: hostname="unix.stylo.italia.com" Maybe this has to do with the fact that the my installation script did not end up correctly (I got a syntax error running extract.sh and do_cksum.sh after ftp installation, so I had to do it by hand, then the script didn't run anymore): I have configured 'sysconfig' by hand. Another issue. Look at the result of two sysctl commands: >unix# sysctl kern.hostname >kern.hostname = unix.stylo.italia.com >unix# sysctl kern.domainname >kern.domainname = Is it normal that domainname be null ? Thanks to anyone trying to help me. Angelo Turetta. System Administrator - STYLO S.r.l. - Bologna aturetta@stylo.italia.com (Angelo Turetta) 100014.1757@compuserve.com
