I can see it checks for it on port 0x230 on boot up, but the [0]CD-ROM is actually on port 0x250. [0] [0]My questions: [0] - how can I tell FreeBSD to check port 0x250, given that [0] all I have is the snapshot floppies and the 2.0R bindist? All recent (since March) SNAPshots look for the Matsushita/Panasonic/Creative interface at 0x230, 0x240, 0x250, and 0x260 automatically UNLESS you disable or charge the search. Look for "matcd" during the boot messages. The man page (matcd.4) describes the search procedure, what hardware is supported, and how to adjust the search pattern for these drives and host adapters. For most systems, you should not have to touch anything. [0] - does the snapshot actually support the CD-ROM that [0] comes with the SoundBlaster 16 MM Upgrade Kit? Again, the man page (matcd.4) has a list of genuine SoundBlaster sound cards that are known to work, and the model numbers of the two drives that are supported (CR-562-x and CR-563-x). The "OmniCD" drive Creative sells has been a CR-563 since 1993. Note: there are rumors that Creative is going to or has switched to an IDE CD-ROM drive for its multimedia packages. Some of the new Sound Blaster cards (I saw a CT-2800 today) have an IDE interface on the card and nothing else. The current FreeBSD SNAPshots do not support IDE-CDROM drives. This support is coming, but not yet available. If you have a "multi-CD" sound card (it has three CD-ROM drive interfaces on it) and you do have a CR-562 or CR-563 drive, make sure the card is strapped to enable the "Creative" CD-ROM drive, rather than Sony or Mitsumi, and you have the cable plugged into the right connector on the card. The best test is to see if the drive is visible under MS-DOS using the DOS drivers that came with the board and/or drive. Frank Durda IV <uhclem@nemesis.lonestar.org>|"How do I know?
