Thompson) Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc Subject: 1.5.1 boot-time queries: no ep0, Gateway kbd numlock Date: 09 May 1995 12:56:28 GMT Organization: University of Pennsylvania Lines: 28 Distribution: world Message-ID: <HT.95May9085628@chestnut.ling.upenn.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: chestnut.ling.upenn.edu I'm currently living with but wishing I didn't have to two problems at boot time: 1) I'm temporarily disconnected from the Ethernet, but don't particularly wish to rebuild the kernel without the ep0 driver -- is there any way to avoid sitting on my hands for 30 seconds every time I boot while the initialisation times out? 2) As far as I can tell something in the initial probe of my Gateway 2000 keyboard during the device initialisation during the FreeBSD boot sequence re-sets NumLock (I know this is an on-going saga), i.e. even if it's off before then it gets set back on, so I have only a narrow window to get it off again by hand or the keyboard is effectively dead when it finally comes up for login. Maybe these are both fixed/fixable only in 2...., in which case I'm stuck, but if there are simple fixes for someone stuck in 1.5.1 I'd be grateful to hear them. thanks ht -- Henry S.
