I don't know much about UNIX and networking (or DOS and networking, for that matter) so I thought I would throw this question out there (wherever there is) and see if any responses come back. I have managed to connect my PC to the terminal server at my school over a modem line using PPP. An IP number (128.100.254.254) is assigned to me and the IP number of the terminal server (128.100.8.27) is also available to me. I mean available in the sense that I can PING both these addresses and it works. If I try to PING any other machine in the University, it just sort of sits there and sends packets out but never gets any back. It is as if it cannot connect to any other machine. Well, with my limited knowledge, I concluded that there must be some sort of routing function that is not happening here. I know there must be some gateway to the outside would from this terminal server (I think it might be 128.100.8.14) but I don't know how to get my machine to route through that thing. How can I fix this situation, if at all? I can provide more information if necessary. I have defaultroute set in my ecf/ppp/options file, if that is any help. MANY MANY thanks!
