The FreeBSD has a very nice installation interface. However, the Linux works better even though its installation is little harder and it has some non-standard network interface. If FreeBSD requires libgcc.so.261.0 for its installation, then libgcc.so.261.0 should be in the installation package. Add libgcc.so.261.0 later on, causes X environment is not set up. I saw a message about a week ago, it complains that the mouse device is not configured. I had the same problem, but I do not know if this is caused by XF86 configuration failed due to miss libgcc.so.261.0. or just something is wrong in FreeBSD. At startx, I got this message: MIT-SHM extension disabled due to lack of kernal support PEXEntensionInit: Couldn't open default PEX font file Roman_M Fatal server error: Cannot open mouse (Device not configured) X connection to :).0 broken (...) I am evaluating the different UNIX OS for PC. I had Linux and BSDi installed on our PCs, And I saw some one post message in BDSi group and says the FreeBSD is better then BSDi, so I tried to install it. First of all, I like its interface of installing, but I cannot get every thing to work in a week. If some one would give me quick hack on solving this problem, it will be appreciated. FreeBSD should make itself easy to configure and work reliable. I like BSD since it is much more professional than Linux. However, this time, I did hang here and cannot figure out what I can do by myself. I am very new to FreeBSD. If I did some thing worng on installation, I will stand corrected.
