Didn't this thread get started when someone claimed
*BSD having done this was a gratuitous change, and
therefore Linux was better in this regard?  :-)

For those that don't know and to support what Chris
is saying, the Linux file system standard currently
says that no program should look directly into
/usr/share, that symlinks should be provided from
other places, such as /etc/termcap.

This is where Linux and *BSD differ in this regard
(and could go into the Linux/*BSD Differences FAQ
since it's one of the few concrete differences that
won't change quickly!).
