The problem with emacs taking a long time to start-up was just what some of you have suggested: when the network is down emacs takes longer to start-up as it's looking for the nameserver. As my machine is located at home and I don't always run SLIP it's no wonder that it's been happening very often. I've just tried it again with network up and running and it took no time at all (3-5 seconds). thanks again, Tomek -- +------------------------------------------------------+ | /\ tm | | /--\TOMEK tpiatek@comp.vuw.ac.nz <-- New Zealand | +------------------------------------------------------+
