Date: 17 May 1995 01:38:55 -0500 Organization: MCSnet, Chicago Area Public Internet Access Lines: 25 Message-ID: <3pc5lv$c8m@Mars.mcs.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: mars.mcs.com Hi - I've got a bare-bones Dell 486P/50 I need to load via FTP and ethernet. The Adaptec 1542C has its BIOS at 0xd8000 and I don't think it can be changed. Unfortunately, in the boot floppy kernel, both ed0 and ed1 are hard coded to use the same mem addr (0xd8000). I can change this on the card, but without building a new boot floppy (a chore I was hoping to avoid) I don't see any way to load with FTP. Any suggestions? Wouldn't it make sense to config the boot floppy kernel devices with DIFFERENT settings to accomodate weird conflicts like this? How 'bout: ed0 ioaddr 0x280 irq 5 maddr 0xd8000 ed1 ioaddr 0x300 irq 3 maddr 0xd4000 The boot floppy kernel seems pretty trim... is there any documentation on building a replacement? Any pointers?
