I have got an Enhanced IDE HD (Maxtor) with probably 32 heads. I wanted to install FreeBSD 2.0. With the boot install disk I created a little partition for it and assigned root ( / ), swap, /usr and some others. Then the partition a (/) was successfully written, but there occured an error at writing wd0f (or so...) which sayed that it is not possible to write to 32 head HDs. So I booted from HD and only got the Bootmenu (F1 FreeBSD \n F2 MS-DOS \n F3 OS/2) and after pressing F1 (nearly) nothing happens. At a next try (with the boot disk) the error was away - all seems to work correctly, but booting from HD still was not able. Do I have a wrong boot disk? Where may I get a better one from? Another question. Is it possible to install bootcode to a floppy? I do not want to install the bootmenu again. To start FreeBSD I want to boot from a single floppy which only contains a small loader which should start booting FreeBSD from HD. -- regards Roland.
