Date: 18 May 1995 04:40:49 GMT Organization: University of California, Riverside Lines: 31 Message-ID: <3pej4h$mlc@galaxy.ucr.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: admin1101dp.ucr.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] I have a machine running 1.1.5.1 that has a modem attached, mainly for dial-in. I also have a dos/windows pc next to it that is attached to the FreeBSD machine with a null modem cable, using the pc as a hard-wired terminal. They're also both connected to ethernet, btw. Is it possible to communicate from the pc to the modem on the FreeBSD machine in a very transparent way, making the modem on the FreeBSD machine appear to be on the pc? The modem is a Supra with flash bios and I need to run a dos program that installs the new firmware. The flaser program expects the modem to be directly connected. I'd rather avoid having to shutdown the FreeBSD machine, connect a monitor, keyboard, and boot dos from a floppy to run the flash upgrade. I'd like to be able to run the flash upgrade program on the pc. I know that I could talk to the modem by running a comm program on the pc, logging-in, and running a kermit on the FreeBSD machine. But I don't think this would be transparent enough. Is there a fairly simple way to accomplish this? Thanks. -Loren Irwin lirwin@admin1101dp.ucr.edu
