One problem I have is that I never install FreeBSD systems as a user
might.. I make changes to the kernel and reboot.
I tend to install manually

I can never answer "What went wrong in my install" questions as I've rarely
ever SEEN a 'normal' install.

having said that, I helped someone install FBSD2.0 on a second disk today
(over the phone) and it seemed to go fine..
I had them select "use entire disk" for the fdisk section
which short-circuits some of the things that can go wrong however.
