I am the one who reported to have run Doom under FreeBSD and is not
a rumor. Basically, I compiled lites and loaded linux x-doom as well
as the required linux static libraries and ran doom on my system.

This approach of running mach under FreeBSD is a bit cumbersome and
there is an effort to provide linux emulation under FreeBSD .
