I spent several hours last night trying to install 2.0.5 Alpha over FTP.
I had a strange and mysterious problem. I need/would like to know if it is a
bug with FreeBSD 2.0.5 Alpha, a problem with options, or a problem on my end.
I'll try to give as much detail as possible. Any and all help is appreciated.

Machine: Zenith Z-Select 486 DX/2 66MHz w/ 8M memory, CL5428 video, WD Caviar
2340 (340M IDE) HDD, SMC Elite 16 (Coax Ethernet), 3.5" floppy, etc. It has a
50M DOS partition (for use with Novell 4.1), and was previously running
2.0-Release, and (briefly) FreeBSD-current (though so briefly I never got the
new bootstrap, etc., set up :) but it booted :)

After smacking myself on the forehead when I realized my network card was set
at the wrong address :), I tried to do an FTP install. I did the following:

Set options: FTP retry (I also tried 'FTP ask new host' to no avail)
             Extra Debugging on
             Assume Yes

Partitioned and labelled (32M Swap, 43M /, 200M /usr)

Custom install options: Everything but SRC, All of X except non-english fonts,
                        and programmers portions.

Set up interface: ed0
(all values available from ftp.iastate.edu in
/pub/netinfo/hosts, and as reported in a local net info FAQ)
                  host name: te134a.cce.iastate.edu
                  domain: iastate.edu (also tried cce.iastate.edu)
                  IP: 129.186.7.167
                  Gateway: 129.186.7.254
                  netmask: 0xffffff00
                  name server: 129.186.1.200 (also 166.166, 167.167, 168.168)

I think that is all of the options...

Symptoms: It would start the install. Half the time, it errored and said it
couldn't look up ftp.freebsd.org. The rest of the time it would get through
several distributions (it seemed random) and then report:

delete net default
DEBUG: Command 'route delete default' returns status of 0

and the machine would essentially hang. If I did Ctrl-Alt-Del it would ask if
I wanted to abort, and shut down properly, but not much else. I tried to use
the extra shell to see what was happening, but the most I thought of last
night was to try a ps, and (of course) it reported that it couldn't find
/kernel.

Any ideas? Is it my setup, FreeBSD, or my install options?
