Right now I'm running FreeBSD-2.0 RELEASE. I have compiled my own kernel, its nothing special, just has fewer drivers in it. Its also tuned to the addresses and other settings of my hardware. The system it runs on is a 486-33 machine, VLB without any VLB cards. It has two IDE hard drives, and generic I/O cards for serial and parallel ports. I am trying to get both NICs running along with the SLIP connection. The dual NIC configuration isn't critical now, its actually for later, but I want to be able to put the system up as quickly as possible when two NICs are necessary. NICs: Boca EtherNet Combo uses the Lance Chipset irq 5 drq 5 base 0x300 Noname Novell compatible NE2000 base 0x260 irq 10 shared 0xd8000 When the Boca starts up, I get "lnc0: Heartbeat error -- SQE test failed" the machine continues to boot for a little bit before it crashes, telling me that its booting the network daemons, right after "routed" or "printer" comes up. Maybe I haven't done something right when I recompiled the kernel. Is there anything srtange I have to do for multihomed hosts. (That doesn't actually seem like that can be it, because the system is currently multi-homed to the Internet and an internal network through the ed0 and sl0 network connections.) But maybe I'm missing something else. Are these drivers compatible with each other, or do they conflict somehow? Any advice or FAQs are welcome.
