I don't understand your problem. This guy seems to have two perfectly sensible questions. Why not just answer them ? Is your point that someone like this shouldn't be running FreeBSD ? It that is so, my suggestion would be that the poor man should throw FreeBSD away and turn to Linux, where the questions above would be quickly answered. Even for BSD, I would suggest that he print out the "Linux Installation and Getting Started" (or buy it, as part of the "Linux Bible"). Chapter 3, "A Linux Tutorial" -- it could just as well be called "A Unix Tutorial" -- would cover both the questions above: "Creating an Account" and "Customizing your Environment". Unix is not difficult. Some people involved with Unix are difficult.
