Just because the docs don't say FreeBSD directly on them doesn't mean that they are not applicable. There is a very long history of documentation on *BSD. The reason that Linux NEEDS special documentation is that it is significantly different in some (many) areas. It just isn't quite the emergency to document FreeBSD specifically like it was Linux. (The O'Reilly series is a good example of *BSD documentation almost 100% applicable to FreeBSD.) There will be more and more FreeBSD specific documentation available as time goes on anyway -- so don't give up on FreeBSD :-). FreeBSD is (has been) diverging slightly and will continue to mature.
