Date: 21 Jun 1995 19:13:49 GMT Organization: Technical University of Berlin, Germany Lines: 34 Message-ID: <3s9r1d$ag0@news.cs.tu-berlin.de> NNTP-Posting-Host: quatar.cs.tu-berlin.de Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Hi For those all, who think about using DAT with 2.0.5-RELEASE: I'm using a HP C1533A DAT-drive, DDS-II, 4GB without any compression up to 16GB with compression. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rst0 bs=64k (thousands of ^@ onto Tape) write-performance: 2.8MB/s (50MB from /dev/zero, gzipped to 80k) dd if=/dev/rsd0a of=/dev/rst0 bs=64k (normal binaries on filesystem) write-performance: 880k/s dd if=one_gzipped_file of=/dev/rst0 bs=64k write-performance: 500k/s And nice Jumps over many backups (3x200MB) to the beginning of a tar-archive within 30s !!! REALLY nice.
