Forgive me for having a conversation with myself. :-)

It's not a FreeBSD bug, it appears to be a hardware oddity in the
Zenith. If I put a

return(4);

at the top of psmprobe() in /sys/i386/isa/psm.c, the problem goes away.
I am now hapilly using X with the built-in hardware and an 1152x900x8
(virtual) screen.

I have passed on a copy of psm.c to the tech support folks at Zenith.
I'll keep everyone posted if I get any response. Perhaps they can
suggest a better probe routine for PS/2 mice...?

I still haven't figured out what I've done wrong with the sound, though.
If anyone knows the config file magic for a Microsoft Windows Sound
System widget, I'd love to hear it.

I've also got more data on the wakeup hang problem. It does not happen
when I boot the boot.flp and play around in the menus. I can rest and
restore to my heart's content. However, when running my normal kernel,
a restore causes a 'stuck hourglass' failure. I've tried disabling
all of the drivers that make sense, doing the rest/restore in single
user mode... This is weird. What could the boot floppy be doing
differently?
