I have set up a dialup slip service on my FreeBSD box which is working fine - however the phone line I have access to is unfortunatly is someone's office phone which is needed during the day. Is there any way to enable the modem during specific hours only (ie. turn auto answer mode off during the 9 - 5 period). The modem uses the standard AT commands - I can switch it off manually allright using tip. What I really need I suppose is a shell script which will run tip and send the appropriate commands at the times specified. Apologies if this is not the right place to discuss this - all replies suggesting I go and read a good sysadmin book will be accepted graciously. Hoping someone can help.. Justin.
