This is a : common configuration problem. I used softset2 to configured the IO Port and IRQ, but didn't see any place in the software to set the mapped memory address. We run softset2 on a 286 beside our freebsd system because softset2 freezes on the freebsd system (apparently it doesn't like SMC cards in large numbers ;). We couldn't use softset (1) because it wouldn't run on the 286 (AST). I assumed that softset2 just lef the memory mapping as it was and the card autodetected from software control once the ioport was recognized it.
