Personally, I've never tried Linux. I started out with 386BSD and within a
week was told about FreeBSD and went to it. I couldn't be happier. I've
never had a major problem or even a major complaint that 15 minutes of reading
didn't solve. Because of this, I've never had any need or interest in Linux.
I have nothing bad or good to say about it. Consequently, I've never spent
any time in the Linux newsgroups.

Lately, though, it seems that the Linux users aren't following my way of
thinking. Although I've never considered it bad to discuss issues that touch
both systems, or unix as a whole, I'm getting somewhat annoyed at coming to
read this newsgroup everyday and finding 20 new Linux vs. FreeBSD posts, as
well as posts such as one earlier replying to a request for _FREEBSD_
documentation with the location of Linux documentation and the comment "Don't
give up on Linux so soon!"

I don't mind Linux people reading this group. I encourage it. I think there
is a lot of information that could be shared to benefit both groups. I am
VERY sick, however, of seeing responses to legitimate questions that summarize
easily to "Forget FreeBSD, try Linux!" I have yet to hear of that helping
anyone. If Linux was perfect, I'm sure there would not be a FreeBSD project,
or people for that project to help. People choose FreeBSD for a reason.
People choose Linux for a reason. I would like it if those from the Linux
group respect people's decisions, and restrict your responses to actual
answers to a question, or well-informed arguments. Uninformed arguments make
you look stupid, and always seem to be followed by huge numbers of posts
correcting your mis-information. "FreeBSD Sucks! Linux Rules!" is not an
answer of any kind.

This is not meant to offend anyone. It's just an observation.

Thanks again to the FreeBSD Team and all of the volunteers for making such an
excellent product. Thanks to everyone for respecting people's choices
(including those who chose Linux) :)
