I am trying to get some fax software installed on a NetBSD 1.0 system. However, I am
having severe problems getting the modem to be recognized. When I tried to open cu,
it would hang, and then disconnect me as soon as I typed anything. Then I set the
modems (I have two, one internal on tty3, one external on tty1) to recieve incoming
calls. They would pick up, but would not give a login prompt, or respond to anything.
Changing it back, I am now told by cu that the line is in use, and completely cut off.

There is no visible process using the ports, and I have rebooted the system to make sure
there was no left over process gumming things up. Help.
