Check out the Linux Panasonic CDROM driver sbpcd.c and sbpcd.h - the 
522/523 command set is in the .h file.

And a question of my own...I can play audio CDs on my Panasonic 563 drive 
under FreeBSD - does this mean the driver works completely?  Can I mount 
ANY CDROM (except audio, of course)?  I've been trying to mount one that 
came with a book on UNIX utilities but no luck.
