Last week I bought a HP35480 DAT streamer and connected it to my PC. Configuration: ASUS SP3 486/DX2-66, 1 GB + 2 GB HD (NEC 31200, DEC 5200) both SCSI, no IDE drives, NCR 810 on-board PCI controller. All devices are unterminated, centronics-interface at the end, terminated. NEC: id0, DEC: id1, HP: id5. Occasionally there's a Viper 150 (ID4) at the centronics but that doesn't make any difference to my problem. I run FreeBSD 2.0R and wanted to install 2.0.5R together with (and from!) the new installed tape. The installation went through without any major problems. I could read all files, I can write files. Pax, tar, dd, dump, cpio, etc. can read and write ok. But I keep getting lots of _annoying_ kernel warnings (I still run the generic kernel): kernel: getcc reselected from t0 (that is from memory) While installing a couple of packages it was repeated over 300 times (all worked though). Then again when I did a 2 GB backup it didn't show up. It seems to be quite unpedictable. The jumper settings of the drive: 3 is off (i.e. media Recognition is on), all other jumpers are on. The booklet I got with the drive doesn't mention the meaning of the jumpers. It only gives the "proper" settings for SunOS, HPUX and OSF/1 and tells me to "contact my HP vendor" for further informations. :-(( Can anyone give me a hint what to do now? Recompiling the kernel (I'll do that anyway), switching the jumper settings? How? Or even better: Could someone give me exact information on what the single jumpers are for? Thanks in advance. -Walter PS: Followup is set to comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc -- Walter Hafner_____________________________ hafner@forwiss.tu-muenchen.de FORWISS Muenchen, FG Kognitive Systeme, Raum O-134, Tel: 089/48095-220 So here I am, not being entertained!
