Just as an aside, I have had to boot MSDOS to configure at least 2
cards for my ISC machine. Both were Ethernet cards: the 3c503 and the
WD 8013 (er, SMC Ethercard Plus Elite). Imagine my surprise (and, I'm
sure, that of many) to find that there was no facility for this under
UNIX, and that I had to go out and buy a copy of MSDOS.

I have also had to boot MSDOS just to run the diagnostics on nearly every
card.

Not the same, I know, as this issue. But still pretty annoying.
