Is is a Sun 3 or Sparc?  One thing you could do is boot is diskless
initially.  The Sun 3 now supports writing a Sun format disklabel to the
disk.  I don't think the Sparc does...The Sun 3 also has working
netboot and ufsboot code (ufsboot doesn't work on 3/280 last I heard).
