Date: 10 Jul 1995 18:21:48 GMT Organization: infocom, inc. Lines: 25 Message-ID: <3trr3s$ef@mips.infocom.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: mandy.infocom.com Summary: can't disklabel drive, argh. Keywords: SCSI, disklabel, NCR X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] I'm having lots of trouble trying to disklabel a new SCSI drive. I have made an entry in /etc/disktab, but when I try to label the drive the following happens: mips# disklabel -w /dev/sd1 sea32550N disklabel: ioctl DIOCWDINFO: Operation not supported by device What am I doing wrong? The system is a 486DX4/100, ASUS SP3G, 2 Seagate 32550N SCSI drives (system installed on /dev/sd0, I'm trying label and format /dev/sd1), both on the internal NCR controller. It's running 2.0.5-RELEASE. The disklabel I'm trying is sea32550N|Seagate 32550N:\ :ty=winchester:dt=SCSI:se#512:nc#3510:nt#11:ns#108:\ :rm#7200:\ :pa#2433024:oa#0:ta=4.2BSD:\ :pc#4169880:oc#0: (I realize this doesn't fill the entire disk.) Any advice appreciated. Dave
