I don't know if this will help you or not, but the only way I could get cdplayer to work with 2.0R was to do 'cat /dev/mcd0c' and then kill the process. It takes ages to die, produces loads of timeout errors and renders the system almost unusable while it's dying, but once it's gone, cdplayer works without any problems. I never had any problems with xcdplayer though, apart from a single timeout error when it started up. Apparently the Mitsumi code in 2.0 needed more work - I remember someone asking for volunteers (I would have done it, but didn't have any spare time).
