Lines: 27 Message-ID: <3u64da$887@mips.infocom.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: mandy.infocom.com Summary: 100BaseTX problems Keywords: 100BaseTX, SMC, DEC, fast ethernet X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Is anyone using FreeBSD 2.0.5R successfully with the SMC EtherPower PCI card? We have set up two machines using this card, and are experiencing low throughput (100K/s) and high packet loss (60%). We haven't completely ruled out problems with our cabling and hub, but have seen this behavior a) using 15' CAT5 UTP cables, through the hub b) using a 15' CAT5 UTP crossover cable c) using a 3' CAT5 UTP crossover cable (packet loss less, throughput still low) So...is the problem in the de0 driver, in the card, or in the cable and hub? Should we try a different card (does DEC make a DC21140 based PCI 100BaseTX card)? Here's what the kernel says at boot time: Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: de0 <Digital DC21140 Fast Ethernet> rev 17 int a irq 11 on pci0:15 Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: reg20: virtual=0xf48cff80 physical=0x3efeff80 size=0x80 Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: de0: DC21140 [10-100Mb/s] pass 1.1 Ethernet address 00:00:c0:1e:fa:9d Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: de0: enabling 100baseTX UTP port Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: bpf: de0 attached Jul 13 15:20:43 mandy /kernel: using shared irq 11. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Dave
