Because you mentioned having to specify the I/O port, I suspect the adapter card you are using IS NOT a genuine Creative Labs card. The version of the Matsushita/Panasonic CD-ROM driver that is in 2.0.5R ONLY supports Creative Labs or 100% compatible driver interfaces. A lot of sound cards claim 100% Sound Blaster compatibility, but they are talking about the audio side, not the CD-ROM interfaces. The thing to do is to get the latest version of the driver, or the patches. These changes support the LaserMate/IBM/Reveal/Media Vision/Crystal version of the host interface, the one you find usually located at 0x340 or at addresses up in the 0x6nn range. Rebuild your kernel with that version and see if it helps.
