The question is: how (and how often) : should I back it up? I was planning on purchasing a 4~8 gb 4mm DAT SCSI drive (HP or Connor), but I have heard the tapes can only be : used once or twice. Also, I assume that I will have to run NFS to allow backups to take place from on tape drive (on one PC). I have found that I have no need to backup news. Our pipe to the net is thick enough that if I have to rebuild news, I can do it quickly, and disk problems are rare enough to prevent my considering news latency as an issue. This may be different from you however, as I consider our servers more for feeders, than for readers. Also, your pipe size may vary making your considerations different than mine. However, I've found that a ful lbackup of a 3 gig news spool takes quite a long time, upwards of 4 hours on our Python tape.... Also, using rdump, you should be able to dump to a remote host...
