Hi Ken, Well, I must admit that I didn't know about the list at the time I've tried installing MacBSD. I'll give it a check right after this answer. > >As a UNIX software developper, I wished I could find some decent Mac > >version. > > On my SE/30, NetBSD/mac68k (aka MacBSD) runs very fine. I'd say it's > quite decent. Oops ! I think the word "decent" didn't express right my idea... (I'm not native english, just emulated :). What I wanted to say is that MacBSD is designed to work on old Macs. I know that some of these are the best Macs in the world (I was working on a SE/30 some years ago) but todays Macs (040's & PPC's) are what my customers want... > >We've tried to put it on a IIci, IIcx with no results other than the crash > >you mention. > > Maybe you didn't read the documents very carefully, did you? Do you > have 32bit addressing mode ON on those machines? Yes, yes... I've read the docs (I always read the docs) and I've turned 32bit addressing on... I've also removed all additional parts in the IIci to keep going on a clean basic machine. > > We've also tried on a PM9500 which gives better results but > > always crashes... > > No, no, MacBSD DOES NOT support any PMac. But you say "better > results"... that's interesting. Well, at that moment, a "better result" was that the boot made a step further than on the other Macs :) In fact, we were trying it because we considered that the emulator acts as a 030... > >My only hope is that someone can boost Linux for Mac development. > > Parhaps you'd be interested in Linux PPC party. What I will do is to check the MacBSD list before anything else and give it another chance to run. :) Didier. +----------+ Welcome to... | ^ ^ | | O O | Didier Korthoudt | \______/ | Computing Science Dept | \____/ | University of Liege +----------+ Belgium - Europe |. === | +=--------=+ korthoud@montefiore.ulg.ac.be http://www.montefiore.ulg.ac.be/~korthoud/
