So, should I believe what I saw and got , or First, I think early 1.2.x kernels had ppp trouble - try 1.2.10+. Second, you can get very good support, and I don't mean just the net. Most CD-ROM vendors offer a support contract and there are also 900-numbers. You do get what you pay - but there are options. Do not expect to grab Slackware off the net and get a commercial system. There are distributers that specialize in commercial support. Examples: info@wgs.com annual support contract, update subscription, CD info@sru.com $70 CD w/30 days support, 1 year contract $600 linux@fintronic.com Pre-configured hardware info@yggdrasil.com CD and good support bass@silkroad.com Large system support - Fortune 500, DOD, US Gov support@InfoMagic.com Tech support, remote SA, networking help, setup kraft@gac.edu Admin, networking, programming, non-Linux integration fanlu@informix.com Admin, install, program, networking to HP-UX/SCO/SunOS davep@nanosoft.com General Unix consulting, Linux install/porting/support For commercial use most people recommend Redhat or Yggdrasil Linux. Caldera will soon be excellent - it is Redhat + a Netware client and special desktop. I couldn't find the advertizement, but Cygnus has a very good reputation for support. -- Albert Cahalan albert@ccs.neu.edu
