At work (*not* Demon, they provide my home address), we run one of the most popular WWW sites in Europe. We used to run it on a Sparc 2, but that got run into the ground, so we moved it onto an SGI. The SGI has stood up to everything that has been thrown at it for the last three months, and we recommend them now instead of Sparcs to customers who need Web servers. Returning to the original subject, I'm afraid PCs don't get a look-in, except for a few Windows machines we use for developing front ends. I have tried to evangelise about FreeBSD, but apparently there were some bad experiences a couple of years ago with Linux and SCO. Anyway, FreeBSD, NetBSD and Linux would all IMHO perform very acceptably in a classroom environment, which I vaguely remember is what the original poster wanted to do. If you go for Linux, make sure you use a recent kernel, though. James -- Segmentation fault (core dumped): cannot find file '.signature'
