The Mitsumi CD-ROM drives are only supported at a few i/o ports and IRQ's.
I don't have my lizard book handy but you can find the info on what i/o ports
are probed for Mitsumi's in the book.
If you are able to change the CD-ROM settings to the ones in the lizard book
you should have no problems. If not you may have to do things the hard way.

My install of BSD/OS v2.0 with a very old single speed Mitsumi CD-ROM was
quite an experience. First the interface card was soo old I had forgotten
how to set the jumpers. Well I knew what port it was at (by using DOS) but
BSDI just would not recognize that port address.
The only way I could get it to work was to get to an existing BSD/OS v2.0
machine and compile a kernel that had the right settings for my CD-ROM.
Then I made a copy of the first install disk and moved this new kernel image
onto it.
The install saw my CD-ROM when I re-did the install and everything else
worked okay.

If you are still unclear or if you do not have access to another machine,
e-mail me and I'll see what I can do.

later.
