Well, I decided to ftp install the basic package of FreeBSD today (2.1.0-950726-SNAP) via ftp install. As a linux user, I just wanted to try this package. Well, I can't do it but we're not giving up. My setup: Linux server (#1) connected to internet via 28.8 v.34 using slip with: My IP: 199.249.xxx.56 Gateway: 199.249.xxx.2 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 I have a second computer (#2) connected via ethernet with the internal network: (These are unregistered) (Use firewall) Network: 192.168.100.0 Gateway: 192.168.100.1 Broadcast: 192.168.100.255 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 I use SOCKS for firewall on computer #1 and it works well with Win95/winsock. I run my own nameserver and it works well. Questions: 1-Why is freeBSD boot.flp recognizing the ethernet card in computer #2 as ed1 (shouldn't it be ed0)? Only one NE2000 installed. Problem: When I set all configs for network, freeBSD spends about two minutes doing a name lookup for ftp.freebsd.org. I watch the modem lights and nothing goes out over the net requesting the DNS. It only comes back and asks if all network configs are correct. Any suggestions will be appreciated. FreeBSD looks like a good OS. -- ********************************************** * Charles Browning * Augusta, GA * * 706.855.9999 * * browning@.csranet.com * **********************************************
