FreeSD with X-Windows should run quite fast with this config.

I've installed both with no problems. Each has their own graphical
setup routine thay ou can customize to a point.

Here's my setup:
HD1 - 170 stacked, DOS
HD2A - 270 stacked, DOS
HD2B - 270 stacked, FreeBSD
HD2 is my 540 that I split between DOS and FreeBSD.

The FAQ says it does.
: I will greatly appreciate any responses that throw light on

: good at it, but Un*x will be new for me.
Have fun with whatever you choose!
