Problem manifests itself like this. I take one properly RaWriten disk with boot_144.flp on it, bung it in the drive, and re-boot. Up comes the little boot options message, and the 'Boot:' prompt. Fine, no problems here. If I then hit enter (or let it roll on itself) it then tries to do the boot, and I get the little / - \ | / - \ | graphics spinning round. Almost immediately this gets replaced by Error C:0 H:0 S:18 which gets repeated on as many subsequent lines as I can be bothered to watch (oh, and the / - \ | is still ticking away too). Basically HELP! I have seen no reference to this in any of the FAQ's or installation stuff. The exact same disk will boot a Dell PC I have lying around here and if I try it on another DECpc 433dx DT, then I get the same errors as on mine. I have tried all the 'Boot:' options (I think). The only thing remaining is to wonder if the CMOS setup is really screwy on this machine. It is modified by a Ctrl-Alt-U keypress at a specific point during POST. It appears to load the SETUP program off disk, though I have no idea where from, but once in there, all the CMOS settings look sane to me. FWIW, I don't get this problem with Linux (Slackware 2.0) install which seems (upto that point at least) to work in a very similar way. Sorry to go on so, but I figure you're better off if you have all the info up front rather than having to mail me back to get it all. Please, please help if you have any ideas, Thanks, P.S. I have 10 old IBM PS/2's I' dlike to run UNIX on, what do I have to do to make that happen? (something about MCA support in a kernel?) -- Mac Computer Science Yr4 Living at Home now.
