Hello. We are considering setting up an access provider in our area,
with the main thrust as Web services, from authoring and consulting to
publishing, etc. I have some questions that I'd appreciate your input
on.

First issue is hardware. I've had people tell me to get a big expensive
RISC machine to do all the work, and others tell me to get a fleet of
Pentium boxes, assigning each one a task. i.e. one does mail, one news,
and one or two for web servers vs. a $20,000 SPARC. What do you all
think of this?

Next is the OS. Windows NT? I know this might be a bad place to bring
it up, but it is out there and I must consider my possiblities. It is
supposed to be much easier to use, although it is proprietary and young.
I don't know. What do you think about it? If UNIX, then which flavor?
I have had BSD / BSDI recommended to me several times. I have also
heard a lot about Solaris. What are the advantages of each? Is it
basically a matter of taste? Thanks a lot for your time.

Bob
