Date: 27 Jul 1995 20:03:40 GMT Organization: USGS Lines: 15 Message-ID: <3v8res$406@gap.cco.caltech.edu> Reply-To: stan@bombay.gps.caltech.edu NNTP-Posting-Host: bombay.gps.caltech.edu I transferred a couple of files to my FreeBSD system last night. I used Kermit to do the transfer, and the filenames include the "$" character. Now I can't do anything with them, since when I tried to rename them, I got an error where it stripped out the "$" and tried to interpret the character after it as a variable. What do I do about this? Also, on an unrelated note: Is there a book I can get that gives a good introduction to X programming? Since I got X working now, I want to try my hand at programming. I do well in C, so this shouldn't be too hard, but I am looking for a good guidebook. Any suggestions? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stan Schwarz | "Looks like another perfect day... stan@bombay.gps.caltech.edu | I love L.A." - Randy Newman -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
