..blast of NT.

I cannot argue either way I do not know enough about NT
in everyday use or sysadmin details. From
a kernel point of view NT is certainly better
documented than any UNIX I have everr worked on.

However I think you have missed the point: it is not
me who said this, the US government has declared that
NT is an Open System therfore putting NT in
direct competition with UNIX. As to whether
sysadmin's jobs will be more difficult I
have no opinion. The fact is that two very
large goverment/military groups have already
stated that they will change from UNIX to NT.

Like it or not the "perception" is that
the average computer user will find NT easier
to use than UNIX. Perhaps also the increased
sysadmin time was offset against the
time required by the more numerous "average user"
to come to grips with UNIX versus the more
familiar NT. A second reason would have
to be the relatively inexpensive apps
and development tools for NT versus the
ridiculous cost of similar UNIX tools
even if available.

Again this was not a deabate as to which OS
is better but rather what should be done
to FreeBSD to make it better. It seems
that GUIs are popular (understatement intended!)
Question is should FreeBSD adopt a GUI
development strategy and if so based on what
technology ?
