You can go for v1.7.1 and I've compiled it without problem using the
"BSD 4.3 alike" system with FLAGS as:

FLAGS  = -D_BSD43 -D_SELECT 

and link it with termcap. It seems to work for 90% :-(

I am using 2.0.5.

I've however, no way to make ecu (from ports) to work...:(
