As I understand it, none of the parallel port card manufacturers will release programming information for their cards. HOWEVER, you can use the paralle port itself. I've been using PLIP (parallel port IP) for connecting from my FreeBSD box to my laptop with great success. It's not ethernet speeds, but I'm getting a consistant 70K/sec out of the wire. Basically, it acts like a SLIP/PPP link except that it's using a LapLink cable. Quite nice.
