Hi,
currently I'm using my FreeBSD box to dial into my University which
acts sort of an ISP. So I set up my slip device and the default route
accordingly:
ifconfig sl0 inet 160.45.220.12 160.45.220.1 ...
route add default 160.45.220.1
where 160.45.220.1 is the value of defaultrouter in my /etc/sysconfig.
And 160.45.220.12 is my IP-Addr.
(BTW, very nice idea this /etc/sysconfig.)
But, of course, I don't want to stop there. :)
I have a second computer now with FreeBSD installed (what else?).
And I have a serial line, later this will be replaced by ethernet.
So I configured GATEWAY into the kernel and set up my first system as
a slipserver.
I made an /etc/sliphome/slip.{hosts,login,logout}. Works fine, with
one exception: I have to delete the default route on my first system
to work properly. Without it netstat -i hangs, ping B (if A is the
slipserver) hangs. Only ping A on B works. But not telnet etc.
I tried numerous things: changed routedflags from -q to -s, added the
route B default. Defined a subnet and added a route to that. But to
no avail.
Is there a FAQ about this? I've read the manpages about route(8) and
routed(8) and I'm so dumb like before,
Thanks in Advance, -Arnulf
