$ I've recently struggled through the installation for BSD 4.4 which I got on a CD.
i'll assume that since you're posting to comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc you mean
you've been trying to install freebsd, and not 4.4BSD.
$ I hacked the install 'cause the CD install routines wouldnt work (big
$ suprise). But, I've got all these 00_TRANS.TBL files to delete. Been doing
$ it manually, but it sucks. Tried various combos of rm -r, to no avail.
is this freebsd 2.0 or 2.0.5? what about the cdrom install didn't work for
you?
$ Tried "find / -name 00_TRANS.TBL | rm -f" which just gives me the error
$ message showing proper syntax use of the command.
find / -type f -name 00_TRANS.TBL -print | xargs rm -f

it's not a freebsd thing, it's a unix thing.
$ I cant seem to get the system prompt to display the current working
$ directory. Help with this would be nice.
it depends on the shell you use.
i believe the unix faq has a section devoted to this. try ftp'ing it
from rtfm.mit.edu:/pub/usenet/news.answers/unix-faq/ (i think).
