With 2.0.5R my 3c509 worked right : out of the box and this machine gets a lot of network traffic : (200-300k web hits/day). It hasn't given me the slightest trouble. 3c509 works unpredicatably. On on ISA P95 machine I have, it works faultlessly with FreeBSD 2.0.5R. No need to reconfigure, no change. Just plug-n-play. (werid thing is this card also fails the loopback test under dos) On another PCI P100 machine, the autoconfiguration failes and selected an interupt which conflicts with the SCSI card. I have to manually select Port 390H IRQ 11. Yea..it work on DOS. Tried the test? It fails 8P. I guess it is only one of the loopback test and it works when i run DOS. I go on /kernel -c, set ep0 port and irq and then do a probe. Yea, it founds it but it returns with 0x00 so it is as good as telling me it doesnt find it. I give up on this, and uses 3c503 now. On another 486DX2 machine, even weirder things happened. I have to reboot a few times before the machine decided to acknowledge that I have the 3c509. Manual probing on ep0 will cause the machine to panic and reboot.. well..sometimes...8P We bought the 3c509B card in a batch. All of them should be the same. But sadly, it seem to have different performance for different machine. So much for plug-and-play 8) -James Seng
