I just purchased BSDI 2.0 and tried to install it on a Pentium/100 with 2 IDE/1.2Gb disks installed and 32Mb memory. Had a pain with the BSD not thinking the disks were what the CMOS had. Called BSDI up and got an "undocumented" ( at least from what I could find ) feature to disksetup: At the first place where you can shell out for a custom install, do so ( this should be right after you tell it you are loading from cdrom and it's local, blah blah blah < assuming you are >). Then at the "#" prompt type in: disksetup -I -I -i Then take all the defaults ( use the bios option for boot blocks ). When disksetup returns, type in "setup" at the "#" prompt. Cool. So this got me past the disk problem. So I started installing the product, and wham! I take a VM crash. Called BSDI back and they suggesting removing half the memory and trying it again. This could not be because I have 2 16Mb SIMMs. Anyhow, I decided to swap my SIMMs, and move them from the two slots they were in, to the other two slots. Well, everything then installed ( after going through the disksetup foo again ), and the system has been rock solid since. Can't explain the memory problem, perhaps something to do with VM addressing? Hope this helps. Regards, Alan Ross
